"The Platform"

Wicklow Woman Wins:

The March final was held on Monday last April 2nd. Don't let this confuse you and don't even dwell on it. If you were there you got a treat. If you weren't you missed a great night. Lots of songwriters converged and competed for the 200euro. The local talent did us proud with Padraig Dempsey and Andrew Lynch making it into the final. Paul Flood, who was a finalist in the Clonmel Song Contest in 2004 traveled from Kildare and Grushenka Arnold made the journey all the way from Wicklow Town. The audience had a difficult job in picking a winner but being the wise people they are they did pick the winner "Bad For Me" by Grushenka Arnold. The Platform at Gleeson's is on every Monday Night and is for singer/songwriters to perform their works in front of a live audience. That audience get to vote for their favourite song on the night. All are welcome. Starts at 9;00pm. Admission is free. Tel 053 66320 /087 210 2021".

This also earns Gru a place in the semi final for the Clonmel national song contest held in August. Winners of that heat shall go on to the final held towards the end of the year.

GRUSHENKA LAUNCHES NEW WEBSITE (Jan 2006)

Wicklow singer/songwriter Grushenka has recently announced the launch of her new website.

Grushenka has been singing and writing songs for the past ten years. After playing in a local band for two years, she went solo in 2003.

Since then, she has been performing in the local and Dublin area as well as various venue’s throughout Ireland. In 2004, she won the singer/songwriter category of the Wicklow Regatta festivals “Battle of the bands”.

Having spent the last four months living in Canada, she has been performing in venue’s in Toronto, recorded an EP and launched her website.

Grushenka returns home this month and will be interviewed on Dublin’s “DSFM” radio on the 16th of February, followed by appearances at “Finnegans” Gorey on February 21st and “Sinn e” Dublin on the 22nd.
